The world sticks to the paved roads. The roads are paths paved by industry. The paths are trails widened by the marketplace. The trails are hacked by the Weird, who leave the paved road for the sake of curiosity and wonderment. Where the Weird go, the world follows.

Be Weird?

That’s right. Be Weird.

This thought comes from a rather prolific screenwriter named David Freeman who once espoused the following philosophy:

“Success is taking all the things that made you weird as a kid, and getting someone to pay you for them when you’re older.”

There is a big push in the world to conform, but little success ever comes of that. Those who rise to the top are the ones who break the rules (or better yet, outsmart them), and then re-write them. No one ever followed their way to glory.

No, be weird. Cut your own path through the jungle. Keep hacking away and you’ll eventually discover something the world can’t live without. And they’ll pay you handsomely for it.
