New Beginnings

I have to admit, I panicked a bit when I received the news that my site had been hacked… the site that has been the hub of my online presence since 2005.

Ransomwear with an insidious worm had sprinkled backdoors throughout my site. We could clean it, but the chances of getting every last kernel of the malicious program out without spending an exorbitant amount of money were slim. Which, of course, meant it would most likely come back again in a week or a month or three years down the line.

Of course I was angry. But then I realized the opportunity in front of me

What had I lost really? There was no sensitive personal or client data there. Years of content, sure. But years of contentment as well. Complacency. Comfort. The very things I tend to warn my own clients against. I'd made some tweaks… but a complete rebrand? A deep examination of my own business identity and its relevance to a rapidly evolving world? How long has it been… 8 years or so?

That was before Facebook. Heck, Twitter was still months away from being born. Yes, my business had evolved with the world, but not my site. Not really.

So, here we are, starting from scratch once more. Sure, I've got backups of files that I'll be adding back in to the site… portfolio pieces and such. Some old articles and posts.

But I'm actually excited to see how this journey goes-- how the story of The LeftHandedWriter evolves. I hope you'll come along with me.
